Chocolate and Roses
Disquera: Ana Laan
Take that album title seriously. After her deliciously cool, cosmopolitan 2004 debut, Ana Laan returns with a randier but no less cool sophomore album. She hopscotches effortlessly between English, Swedish, Spanish and French -- sometimes in the same song -- but what really stands out is her sly, precise singing and strong melodic sense: she's like a winking Astrid Gilberto with a lot more gumption. There are a few wobbly moments, lyrically speaking, but it's an intimate album that slides almost effortlessly into your life.
