Highwoods Stringband

Acerca de Highwoods Stringband

Originally formed as Fat City by a group of busking street musicians, Highwoods Stringband were a preservationist outfit primarily active during the early 1970s in San Francisco. Led by clawhammer banjo master Mac Benford and sporting an unorthodox twin fiddle setup, the Old-Time Revival band was an irreverent favorite on the hippie scene, inhabiting a place much closer to folk than rock but attracting audiences from both scenes. Emphasizing the good-time mentality inherent to much rural pre-war music and performing with stunning dexterity, Highwoods Stringband appear to be descended from the same bloodlines that produced Gid Tanner and Riley Puckett.
